​​What To Do to Get Your Vehicle Ready This Spring​

Spring is here! It is time for renewal. For you, for the lawn, and for your vehicle. When spring comes around, it is time to give your vehicle some love and care. Car care, that is!  

As we are in spring, it is never too late to make sure your vehicle is ready for the rest of the year. That is why we are compiling a checklist of items to get checked before you go on your summer vacation.  

The first thing you want to look at is your fluids. If your oil change interval coincides with the season, that would be the first thing to get done. While you’re draining the oil, change the drain cap washer, the filter, and put in new, fresh oil specified for your engine. Consider recycling your old oil. You should not let it go to waste, and it also helps the environment.  

While you are changing your oil, check out all of your other fluids. That mainly includes the transmission, brakes, coolant, and windshield washer. If these fluids look good, go ahead and top them off. You might want to consider a flush along with fresh replacement to optimize these systems for the long run.  

Aside from the oil filter, the engine air and cabin filters should be looked at. If they look a bit dirty, you can give them a clean. A replacement will keep your vehicle fresh and running well beyond the winter.  

Spring is also the time to check your 12-volt vehicle battery. Not just how much charge it has, but the condition of the connections. Make sure they are free of corrosion, as it could affect how your vehicle’s electrical system works. Also, make sure that the terminals are tightly connected.  

When it comes to your vehicle, your tires are a critical part that keeps you going year-round. That means checking the tire pressure and tread depth of all four wheels and the spare. Here is another tire tip to consider: Have two sets of tires. One of them should be for winter use. They can prolong the life of your standard tires, as long as you keep up the pressures and tread life on them.  

You also want to check on your wiper blades. If they look cracked or damaged in any way, and if they are causing streaking on your windshield, they would need to be replaced.   

One last thing you want to do with your vehicle is give it a thorough detailing job. Not just an exterior wash, but a deep cleaning inside and out. That includes the engine bay, too.
