As a compact crossover, the Equinox competes in the largest automotive category in the U.S. and is one of the best-selling models at Barry’s Chevrolet. After a 20-year history with over 3 million units sold, the Equinox will receive a complete redesign for the 2025 model year. This continues a process that saw the Trax, Trailblazer, Blazer, and Traverse all redesigned or significantly refreshed in the last two years.

More Dynamic Exterior

2.3 inches wider than the 2024 model and inspired by the truck lines, the 2025 Equinox sports a new face with a chrome or body color (depending on grade) panel between the main and thin upper grilles. LED daytime running lights continue to flank the upper grille, but the LED headlights are now tucked into the corner intakes.

The side surfacing is more athletic, with squared wheel openings and more linear contouring. The shark-fin-shaped C-pillar adds a sense of motion and complements the newly available two-tone exterior color combinations. The linear theme continues with the perfectly horizontal lower edge of the rear quarter windows that stretch around the rear and in the sharply defined pistol-shaped tail light clusters.

“This generation of Equinox has taken on a broad-shouldered, athletic appearance that conveys confidence and versatility,” said Phil Zak, Executive Design Director, Global Chevrolet. “We leaned into distinct appearances and material selection for LT, RS, and ACTIV so everyone can see themselves in an Equinox.”

As Equinox’s most sport-focused grade, the RS brings a dynamic, bold style with standard black emblems and mirrors, an available black roof, a wide grille opening, and a high gloss finish on the grille bar and lower fascia. 19-inch Carbon Flash machined aluminum wheels come standard for the crossover, and the option of  20-inch wheels is also available, a first for Equinox.

New, Modern, and Elegant Interior

The interior is also completely redesigned with a more contemporary, spacious ambiance that puts a stronger focus on technology and user experience. It starts with an 11.3-inch infotainment screen that’s more than 30% larger than the current model’s largest screen. This screen is angled slightly toward the driver, who also enjoys their own 11-inch digital configurable information center.

The infotainment system is powered by the precise and quick Google Built-in system, which features onboard Google Maps and other apps available from the Google Play Store. Seat color surfacing on the dash recedes from the driver and front passenger, adding to a feeling of spaciousness. The new Electronic Precision Shift on the steering column eliminates a range selector mechanically linked to the transmission, opening more storage space beneath the infotainment display ahead of the center console.   Other new interior features include:

  • Engaging tactile materials and decorative trim with coordinated textures in the seats, instrument panels, doors, and storage areas.
  • Standard heated steering wheel and heated front seats
  • An available Evotex seating upgrade for the LT
  • Hidden rear cargo floor storage space
  • Standard six-speaker audio system
  • Available wireless charging

Keeping its sport theme, the RS features distinctive Torch Red and Santorini Blue stitching on the Evotex seats, debossed “RS” logos on the headrests in the front row, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Ventilated front seats and rear heated outboard seats are available.

Power with Adjustability

Equinox carries on with the 1.5 -liter turbocharged engine that produces 175 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. It is matched with a continuously variable transmission on front-wheel-drive models and an eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel-drive. RS and ACTIV customers will have driver-selectable modes, including Normal and Snow, with an Off-Road mode on AWD models.

The 2025 Chevrolet Equinox can be expected to appear in the Barry’s Chevrolet showroom later in 2024, though the exact launch date has not been set. Pricing, fuel economy, and other details will be available closer to the launch date.
