Compare the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado to the Competition

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs the Competition

While Chevrolet pickup trucks date back to 1918, the Silverado name arrived in 1975 for the top trim level of Chevrolet’s C/K trucks, above other trim names like Scottsdale and Cheyenne. In the 1999 model year, the Silverado name was expanded to all light-duty trucks, with HD trucks acquiring the name the following year.

Since 1999, there have been five generations of Silverado model lines, all of which have been among the best-selling vehicles in North America. Today’s Silverado has a very wide-ranging product line. It is available in Regular Cab, Double Cab, and Crew Cab configurations with both 5’8” and 6’6” long cargo beds, with an 8-foot bed matched to the Regular Cab. Setting aside the Silverado EV for this comparison, the model is available with four internal combustion engines:

  • 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-4
    • 310 @ 5600 horsepower
    • 430 lb-ft @ 1500 torque
  • 5.3-liter V8
    • 355 @ 5600 horsepower
    • 383 lb-ft @ 4100 torque
  • 6.2-liter V8
    • 420 @ 5600 horsepower
    • 460 lb-ft @ 4100 torque
  • 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-6
    • 305 @ 3750 horsepower
    • 495 lb-ft @ 1500

An 8-speed transmission is paired to the 2.7-liter engine, while all other engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The Silverado half-ton model line has nine trim levels, ranging from the basic, just-doing-the-job Work Truck (WT) to the luxury car-level High Country to the high-performance off-roader ZR2. Combine body configurations, engine and drivetrain choices, trim levels, packages, and options, and there is little doubt that there is a Silverado for whatever pickup truck needs you have.

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. Ford F150Ford has long been Chevrolet’s biggest rival, and nowhere is that rivalry more apparent than in the full-size pickup truck category. The F-150 is the only vehicle with more sales than the Silverado, which means that it has a wide variety of choices, including Regular Cab, SuperCab, and SuperCrew® cabs, six different internal combustion engine choices, including a hybrid drivetrain, and its own all-electric Lightning model, not included in this comparison. It also has eight trim levels, many of which compete directly with Silverado trims such as the basic XL, off-road performing Raptor®, to the luxurious Platinum.

  • Both model lines feature 2.7-liter turbocharged base engines, though the Silverado’s is an inline-4 and the Ford a V6. They trade in power advantages, with the F-150 having more horsepower (325 vs. 310) and the Silverado having more lb-ft of torque (430 vs. 400).
  • The F-150’s best mileage comes from its hybrid drivetrain (4×4 only) with an EPA city/highway/combined estimate of 22/24/23. This is no match for the 22/26/24 mpg of the Silverado turbo-diesel 4×4 model, which is also available as a 4×2 with 23/29/26.
  • When comparing base engines, the Silverado has a higher maximum payload (2000 lb. vs. 1,685).
  • Additionally, when comparing base engines, the Silverado offers a higher base towing capacity (9,200 lbs. compared to 7,600 lbs.).
  • The most popular configuration for both models is the large 4-door cab with a small cargo box. However, the Silverado’s box is slightly longer than the F-150’s (69.9 inches vs. 67.1).
  • The versatile Multi-Flex Tailgate, featuring several useful configurations to expand and enhance usability, is not available on the F-150.
  • Climate control vents for the rear passengers are standard across the Silverado model line but require an upgrade on the F-150.
  • The convenience of keyless start is standard across the Silverado model line but requires an upgrade on the F-150.
  • On the upper side of the model lines, the Silverado offers a 13.4-inch center touchscreen, compared to the 12-inch for the F-150.
  • The Silverado’s Google Built-in infotainment operating system includes an onboard Google Maps app that works without a phone connection, but this feature is unavailable on the F-150.

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. RAM 1500Like Chevrolet, Dodge has produced pickup trucks for over a century. The Ram name was first applied to its pickup truck line in 1989. When Dodge separated its truck line into a distinct division, “Ram” became the division’s name, with “1500” serving as the official designation for the half-ton pickup truck. Recently, the 1500 has transitioned from its lineup of Hemi V8s to a Hurricane 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine available in two states of tune while still retaining the 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V6 as the base engine. Models are available with a Quad Cab featuring short rear doors and a Crew Cab with four standard-sized doors. Cargo beds come in lengths of 5’7” and 6’4”. There are eight trim levels, starting with the basic Tradesman and culminating with the Tungsten, the flagship of the model line.

  • When comparing base engines, the Silverado delivers slightly more horsepower than the Ram 1500 (310 vs. 305) and significantly more lb-ft of torque (430 vs. 271).
  • When comparing base trucks, the Silverado offers a higher Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 14,500 lb, whereas the Ram 1500 has a rating of 11,900 lb.
  • Without a diesel or hybrid option, the Ram 1500 model line offers a maximum fuel economy of 20/26/23, whereas the Silverado 4×2 with the turbo-diesel engine achieves 23/29/26.
  • The maximum towing capacity of the Silverado is 13,200 pounds, while the Ram 1500 has a capacity of 11,550 pounds.
  • The Silverado provides the convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto throughout its model range, whereas the Ram 1500 requires wired smartphone compatibility for the majority of its lineup.
  • The Ram lacks the 15 available camera views, and the Transparent Trailer view towing features the Silverado offers.
  • The Ram lacks a hands-free driving system like the available SuperCruise feature for the Silverado.
  • The Ram’s available Barn door tailgate is nowhere near as versatile as the Silverado’s available Multi-Flex Tailgate.
  • When compared to the Ram 1500 RHO, the Silverado ZR2’s innovative, racing-derived Multimatic dampers offer far greater sophistication than the Bilstein dampers on the Ram. The Silverado delivers both extreme off-road capability and a comfortable highway ride.
  • The Silverado ZR2 has both front and rear locking differentials compared to just a rear locking differential on the RHO.

2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 vs. Toyota TundraThe Tundra is Toyota’s full-size pickup truck, named after a vast, flat, treeless Arctic region in Europe, Asia, and North America with permanently frozen subsoil. Its engine options are all based on its twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V6 engine, available in multiple states of tune, including a hybrid version. All engines are paired with a 10-speed transmission. The Tundra has no two-door regular cab, instead offering a shortened 4-door cab alongside its CrewMax full 4-door cab. It provides a choice of 5.5, 6.5, and 8.1-foot beds, with the latter strictly associated with the smaller cab.

  • When comparing base models, the Tundra has more horsepower (310 vs. 348) but less torque (430 lb-ft vs. 405) than the Silverado.
  • Also, when comparing base models, the Silverado has greater towing capacity than the Tundra (9,400 lb. vs. 8,300).
  • When fuel efficiency is a priority, even the Tundra hybrid model cannot match the Silverado’s fuel mileage with the turbodiesel, which stands at 22/26/24 compared to 20/24/22 for the Tundra Hybrid (when comparing 4×2 models).
  • The Silverado has a maximum towing capacity of 13,300 pounds, compared to the Tundra’s 12,000-pound limit.
  • The Silverado has a standard seating capacity of six, while the Tundra seats five.
  • The Tundra lacks the versatility of the available Multi-Flex tailgate on the Silverado.
  • Rear passengers in the Silverado enjoy more space in nearly all dimensions, including:
    • Legroom (44.5 vs. 41.6)
    • Shoulder room (65.2 vs 62.4)
    • Hip room (60.2 vs. 60.5)
    • Headroom (40.1 vs. 38.5)
  • The Silverado’s short bed measures slightly longer than the Tundra’s, at 69.9 inches compared to 65.6 inches.
  • The Silverado features the available SuperCruise hands-free highway driving technology, which is perfect for long journeys, whereas the Tundra lacks compatible technology.
