All 8 Silverado 1500 trims lined up or a single Crew Cab shot on lot

If you are shopping for a Silverado 1500 and feeling confused about which trim to choose, you are not alone. The Silverado 1500 trim levels span eight configurations, and the differences between them are not always obvious from a window sticker. At Barry’s Chevrolet in West Union, Ohio, we walk buyers through this decision regularly. This guide breaks down all eight Silverado 1500 trim levels explained in plain language, so you can walk in knowing what you want.

The eight trims in order from base to flagship are: Work Truck (WT), Custom, Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ, and High Country. Each one is built for a different kind of buyer.

Silverado Work Truck (WT): Built for the Job

The Silverado Work Truck is the base trim and the one purpose-built for commercial and fleet use. Vinyl floors, cloth seating, an 8-inch touchscreen, and a job-site interior that takes abuse without complaint. The Silverado Work Truck is the only trim in the lineup available in Regular Cab configuration, which makes it a natural fit for contractors and fleet managers who need the longest bed in the shortest overall truck.

The Silverado Work Truck is available with the 2.7L TurboMax 4-cylinder or the 5.3L V8. With the 5.3L V8, it tows up to 11,100 lbs when properly equipped. The capability does not change because it is the base trim. You get the same engine and tow rating as higher trims at a lower price.

Best for: contractors, farmers, fleet buyers, anyone who needs a full-capability half-ton without paying for features they will not use on the job.

Silverado Custom: The First Consumer Trim

The Silverado Custom is the first trim aimed at everyday buyers rather than fleet use. It adds body-color bumpers, an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a cleaner exterior presentation over the Work Truck. The interior remains straightforward with cloth seating, but the Custom reads more like a personal vehicle than a fleet unit.

The Silverado Custom is the entry point for buyers who want a full-size truck as a daily driver and do not need the premium features that come with higher trims. It is priced toward the lower end of the consumer lineup.

Best for: buyers who want a clean, capable full-size truck without added cost for features they will not use regularly.

Silverado Custom Trail Boss: Affordable Off-Road

The Silverado Custom Trail Boss takes the Custom trim and adds the full Z71 off-road package: a 2-inch factory lift, Rancho monotube shocks, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, and front and rear skid plates. It is the most affordable way to get a factory-lifted Silverado 1500.

The Silverado Custom Trail Boss uses the 2.7L TurboMax 4-cylinder engine as standard. Towing capacity is approximately 7,200 lbs when properly equipped. The suspension lift reduces towing capacity compared to a non-lifted Silverado, which is the tradeoff buyers accept when they choose the Trail Boss configuration.

Best for: buyers who access gravel roads, hunting land, or rough terrain in Adams County and Southern Ohio and want factory off-road capability at an accessible price.

Silverado LT: The Most Popular Trim

The Silverado LT is the best-selling trim in the Silverado 1500 lineup. It hits the balance point where features, capability, and price meet for the broadest range of buyers. The Silverado LT adds a 13.4-inch diagonal touchscreen, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging over the Custom.

Engine options on the Silverado LT include the 2.7L TurboMax, the 5.3L V8, and the 3.0L Duramax inline-6 diesel. The 5.3L V8 is the most popular choice and tows up to 11,100 lbs when properly equipped.

If you are not sure which Silverado trim to buy and want a single recommendation, start here. The Silverado LT is the right answer for most buyers in Southern Ohio.

Silverado RST: Sport Look, Same LT Features

The Silverado RST stands for Rally Sport Truck. It sits at the same level as the Silverado LT in the lineup and shares the same interior features. The difference is the exterior. The Silverado RST replaces the LT’s chrome accents with blacked-out trim and adds 20-inch gloss black aluminum wheels. If you want the LT feature set in a truck that looks more aggressive on the road, the Silverado RST is that truck.

The Silverado RST is not a capability upgrade over the Silverado LT. It does not add off-road hardware or change towing capacity. It is a style choice at the same price point.

Best for: buyers who want a sharp daily driver with a blacked-out street appearance and the full Silverado LT feature set.

Silverado LT Trail Boss: Off-Road with LT Comfort

The Silverado LT Trail Boss combines the full LT Trail Boss Z71 off-road package with the LT interior. You get the 2-inch factory lift, Rancho shocks, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and locking rear differential alongside the 13.4-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.

This is the version most Southern Ohio buyers choose when they want a Trail Boss as their primary vehicle. The Silverado LT Trail Boss lets you run a gravel backroad to your hunting lease in the morning and commute to Portsmouth on Route 32 in the afternoon without feeling like you compromised either way.

Best for: buyers who want genuine off-road capability in a truck that is also comfortable as a daily driver.

Silverado LTZ: The Premium Interior Step

The Silverado LTZ is where the lineup becomes genuinely premium. It adds leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a surround-view camera system, a heads-up display, and power-adjustable pedals. The Silverado LTZ also unlocks the 6.2L V8 as an available engine option, which is not available on any trim below it.

With the 6.2L V8 and the Max Trailering Package, the Silverado LTZ tows up to 13,300 lbs. That is the highest towing capacity in the half-ton Silverado lineup for gas engines.

Best for: buyers who want a premium interior and maximum gas power, or who want the best-equipped daily driver before stepping to the flagship.

Silverado High Country: The Flagship

The Silverado High Country is the top trim in the Silverado 1500 lineup. It adds genuine wood interior trim, a 13-speaker Bose audio system, heated rear seats, 22-inch wheels, and Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance over the Silverado LTZ. Super Cruise is exclusive to the Silverado High Country in the 1500 lineup. No other trim offers it.

Super Cruise allows hands-free driving on compatible mapped highways. For buyers who cover long highway distances regularly, it is a meaningful addition. The Silverado High Country is available with the same engine options as the Silverado LTZ including the 6.2L V8.

Best for: buyers who want the most refined, best-equipped Silverado 1500 available and are willing to pay for the exclusive features.

Silverado ZR2: The Off-Road Flagship

The Silverado ZR2 deserves its own mention. It is the flagship off-road trim in the Silverado 1500 lineup and goes far beyond the Trail Boss trims in capability. The Silverado ZR2 comes with Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers, front and rear electronic locking differentials, 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory mud-terrain tires, rock sliders, a wider track, and a ZR2-specific front bumper. The 6.2L V8 is standard.

The Silverado ZR2 is built on the LTZ interior, so you get the premium cabin alongside the most capable off-road hardware available in a factory half-ton Silverado. For buyers who push into serious terrain or want the best of both worlds, the Silverado ZR2 is the answer.

Choosing the Right Silverado 1500 Trim

The fastest way to narrow your choice is to answer two questions: What do you use the truck for? And what is your budget?

  • Work or fleet use with no need for consumer features: Silverado Work Truck
  • Clean daily driver at the lowest consumer price: Silverado Custom
  • Off-road capability at an affordable price: Silverado Custom Trail Boss
  • Best all-around trim for most buyers: Silverado LT
  • Same as LT but with blacked-out sport appearance: Silverado RST
  • Off-road capability with a full LT interior: Silverado LT Trail Boss
  • Premium interior and the available 6.2L V8: Silverado LTZ
  • The highest-end Silverado 1500 with Super Cruise: Silverado High Country
  • Best factory off-road capability in a half-ton: Silverado ZR2

Which Silverado 1500 trim is the best value?

For most buyers, the Silverado LT is the best value in the lineup. It includes the 13.4-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the available 5.3L V8 at a mid-range price. It is the most popular trim in the lineup for good reason.

What is the LT trim on a Silverado?

The Silverado LT is a mid-range consumer trim that adds the 13.4-inch touchscreen, heated front seats, wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, and wireless phone charging over the base Custom trim. The Silverado LTZ adds leather seating, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a surround-view camera, a heads-up display, and the available 6.2L V8 over the Silverado LT. It is a meaningful step up in interior quality and engine capability, not just a slight upgrade.
